MARCH 2019
|
11 weeks and counting until Auckland Grammar School's 150th celebrations, and we have received more than 1,000 registrations.
With such strong interest, you will not want to miss out, so we urge you to register here. You can also find out who is attending from your year by visiting the Who's Coming section on the website.
We begin the celebrations with our 60 Years and Vintage lunch on Thursday 16 May, followed by a special assembly and cocktail reception on Friday 17 May. With musical performances, guest speakers, the annual Grammar vs King's College 1st XV fixture and much more, we hope you will join us for what will be a momentous occasion for Grammar.

Then vs now: the School's centenary in 1969 vs the 150th in 2019 |
|
Mark Warner '65, Head Prefect in 1969 and Professor of Theoretical Physics at Corpus Christi College: "It is hard to believe 50 years have passed since I found myself in Miller's position. Old Boys will recognise the surprise, and current students will be uncomprehending of such 'geological' epochs passing! I advise students to live life to the full, and to value what you are privileged to receive, in the widest possible senses."

Miller Hawkesby, the 2019 Head Prefect: "As a fourth generation Grammar man, I believe the School's 150th anniversary is about recognising and reflecting on those who have come before us; those who have helped to build and strengthen the Grammar Way that enriches the lives of so many today. At the same time, the 150th is about sharing in our excitement for the future, and celebrating who we are and what we stand for in the present. This historic year is about actively giving back to the wider Grammar community and beyond. As the Head Prefect for 2019, I am excited to belong and be actively involved in adding to the rich history of excellence and contribution that our great School is known for."

1,000 miler to raise funds for The Key to Life |
Members of the School's Distance Squad, Old Boys and past and present staff will take part in the '1,000 Miler' at the end of Term 1. The aim is to run 1,000 miles, in relay, in 100 hours around a 1km circuit through the School.
Initially started in 1998, funds from the event will go to The Key of Life Trust, run by Mike King, the 2019 New Zealander of the Year, with the hope of raising over $50,000 going to targeted counselling services for at risk youth and their families.

|
"The event creates its own collective spirit, unique character and becomes one of the major memories of a student's time at Auckland Grammar," says Headmaster Mr Tim O'Connor. "It installs many positive attributes in the students taking part - they quickly learn the art of setting personal goals and the importance of working as a team."
