MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND ALUMNI OFFICE

We are excited that the 2021 Old Boys' Association calendar is filled with so much promise. We all hope that the random nature of this pandemic will settle with the roll out of the appropriate vaccines and that our community can once again enjoy the opportunities to re-connect through the OBA's numerous event offerings, including our reunions, social and business networking occasions and sporting days, all of which are listed on our website

The OBA would also like to congratulate our newest members, the Class of 2020, on their outstanding academic results and, more broadly their achievements throughout Year 12 including on the sporting field, in the Arts and through a range of community pursuits. School Captain, Isaac Yeo said in his parting address to colleagues: “We have been challenged, taught and coached by the best to reach our highest potential, and to be the best versions of ourselves. We have been given an opportunity to learn a thing or two, explore interests and most importantly, forge lifelong friendships. I hope these stay with you as the next phase of our lives begin and we enter a world of possibility, knowing that we will always be bound to one another by our shared Christ Church journey.” Gents, welcome to the OBA!

Please continue to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram for flashbacks, current news and stories that unite the OBA community.

Matt Caddy, OBA President and Deb Hill, Alumni Coordinator

QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS

Congratulations to Professor Peter Leedman AO (’74) who was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours, for his distinguished service to medicine, health and medical research as a physician-scientist, to professional societies, and to tertiary education.

Professor Leedman was selected as an OBA Legend in 2012 in recognition of his significant contribution to society and positive influence on the students of Christ Church Grammar School.

CLASS OF 2010, 10 YEAR REUNION

On 18 December, approximately 70 old boys from 2010 gathered at the Claremont Bowls Club to celebrate their 10-year reunion. Although slightly older, balder and fatter, the cohort came together as if no time had passed at all. Stories were swapped, drinks were shared and people reminisced on the glory days of high school. A few people even played lawn bowls. Click here to read more... William Crohan ('10)

CLASS OF 2000, 20 YEAR REUNION

The Class of 2000 had a very enjoyable reunion at the new Subiaco Hotel, kindly hosted by old boys Lawson Douglas and Dave Allen. It was great to see around 50 old boys attend the evening, particularly given the travel restrictions as a result of COVID-19. The highlights of the evening included a group of old boys picking up Andrew Domahidy in a limo and the old boys finishing the evening with a standard midnight kebab, like the good old days. Old boys are encouraged to join the 2021 Beverley and Districts Combined Public Schools Old Boys’ Association 86th Annual Dinner, hosted by Christ Church Grammar School Old Boys’ Association on Friday 26 March. The guest speaker is Mr Jon Doust ('65), past boarder; author, journalist, comedian and community activist. Please click here for details.

OBA WATERPOLO MATCH
The Christ Church Grammar School Firsts  Waterpolo team have much to learn from elite old boy players, when the two teams face each other in a friendly game on Saturday 6 March. This is a great opportunity for current students to learn from the best, with coaching and encouragement passed down from our old boys. Come along to show your support and enjoy a bacon burger following the challenge. Play starts at 9:00am with refreshments at 10.30am at the Combined Aquatic Precinct (CCGS/MLC). Hope to see you there!

2021 COLLEGE CUP

Calling on crew and spectators for the 2021 College Cup on Sunday 2 May, hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club!  After a false start in 2020, Christ Church Grammar School Old Boys’ Association will enter two teams in the Foundation - 36 sailing challenge. Not to be intimidated by the bag pipes and creative dressing of rival alumni teams, the OBA expect talent and experience will be in their favour. The “Freshie” cliff provides a magnificent viewing platform and the race provides a fun morning out. Expression of interest to join the crew should be directed to Grant Alderson (’83) or Peter Bowman (’77).
