MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI OFFICE

Congratulations to our Olympians, George (’10) and Andrew Ford (’12) after ‘giving it their all’ at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the Australian Men’s Water Polo Team, the Sharks. Competition was strong across the top nine teams - all in medal contention - and our old boys missed out on the quarter finals. “It is obviously a disappointing way to finish the tournament, but we are proud of the efforts we put in” said Andrew.
Closer to home it’s an exciting time as we follow the sporting success of CCGS old boys at local, state and national levels across a wide range of disciplines and watch the rise of current students recognised at elite sporting levels. As we celebrate sportsmanship in this issue, we’d love to hear from you about moments of sporting glory that left a lasting impression.

Liam Henry ('19)
Liam continues to excite Fremantle fans with his speed and skillset. We will continue to follow his future successes with the Fremantle Dockers – perhaps as soon as in 2021, with the Dockers making a late surge towards a position in the top 8!

Tim English ('15)
Since making his senior debut in 2016, Tim has become a permanent fixture in the very strong Western Bulldogs line-up. With media commentators already comparing Tim to All-Australian stars Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy (the two best ruckmen in the game right now), Tim is set to lead Luke Beveridge's team into a final series in which the Bulldogs are fancied to make a serious run at the premiership.

Ben Purser ('07)
Ben is a lawyer with Steinepreis Paganin. However, away from the office Ben is committed to training, playing and mentoring younger players with the Perry Lakes Hawks in the elite NBL 1 West competition. Ben is one of the Hawkes most decorated players and has an impressive record of achievements. Recently, Ben made club history as he broke the all-time games played record – being 336 games. Ned Brophy-Williams (’05)
Ned works for the NSW Institute of Sport and Athletics Australia as lead Physiologist. As part of his role, Ned has been coaching Linden Hall. Linden has been competing for Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 1500m event. Linden made the Olympic finals placing 6th with a personal best time – a terrific performance! Ned is currently in Tokyo to support Linden and the team.

Lachie Emanuel (’19)
Lachie is currently a member of the Australian Junior Men’s’ Water Polo Team and has a scholarship with the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS). Sadly both the upcoming test match series against New Zealand and the Fina World Junior Championships (in the Czech Republic) have been cancelled due to the travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19. Out of the water Lachie is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Economics and Finance at Notre Dame University in Fremantle.

Ollie Sheldrick (’19) and Charlie Emanuel (’20)
Ollie and Charlie have both recently been selected in the Australian Men’s Born 2001 Water Polo squad.

Timothy Gray (’16) and Luka Brown (’20)
Timothy and Luka are both talented tennis players with Australian rankings. Timothy is ranked 65 and Luka is ranked 112. There is continuation of this talent at Christ Church which includes Zachary Viiala, James Newton and Samuel English.

CLASS OF 1980 REUNIONA year after their intended 40 year celebrations (postponed due to COVID), the Class of 1980 enjoyed ‘the best reunion yet’ with a number of old boys joining for the first time. Some had retired, while others were contemplating retirement or were happy to continue the work. Click here for our image gallery; some have changed, others have not!

MEET THE LYNN BROTHERS
Peter and Bun Lynn’s family connection to Christ Church Grammar School goes back to 1917 when their Father, Robert Lynn (always known as Geoff), joined the School as one of only 63 students. Pete, born in 1927, attended CCGS from 1935 to 1945 and clearly remembers the half day holiday granted to students when the School reached the significant milestone of 150 students. Bun, born in 1932, followed at Christ Church from 1940 to 1947 at a time when the School was battling to survive. Peter went on to work in the family shipping business while Bun pursued a career in the wool industry. This was the period of ‘Australia living on the sheep’s back’ and served the Lynn brothers well during a period of prosperity. David Lynn (’76), Rob Lynn (’74), the Ibbitson family
and the Macpherson family have continued the family connection to CCGS through the generations.

Jaaron Davis (’19)
Proud Kalkadoon man Jaaron Davis (’19) is pursuing medicine at Curtin University and hopes to return to his close knit community of Bidgydanga - in the remote Kimberley region - to work after graduating. “I truly believe education has the power to transform lives and society, and it will be vital for our future generations of Indigenous leaders” said Jaaron. Jaaron appreciates the opportunities that presented during his time at Christ Church Grammar School and shares his gratitude here.

Jake Mouritz ('07)
Jake Mouritz ('07) recently featured on 7 News, recognised as a lieutenant (LT) in the 1st Armoured Regiment and the Commander of Cavalry Troop 1 Charlie, based at RAAF Edinburgh, Adelaide, South Australia. His achievement was also carried in Defence News and can be followed here.

Cameron Everett (’16)
Cameron Everett (’16) has graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Biomedicine, majoring in Bioengineering Systems. His research focused on building small, biodegradable scaffolds for implanting in people, to help regrow cartilage using stem cells. “We are fairly far away from that being a procedure that anyone can do, but the research we conducted will help us better understand the advanced manufacturing methods required to print such small-scale structures” said Cameron. He is currently working as a Graduate Systems Engineer at Planet Innovation.
