Dear fellow Old Boys
I trust that you are all keeping safe and well. Despite the challenges that COVID-19 continues to present, the OBA has managed to start 2022 in a positive fashion. I am delighted that we were able to hold our annual OBA Golf Day which saw 56 players compete the for the coveted Roger Mackay Perpetual Trophy at the Mosman Park Golf Club. Congratulations to Aidan Cooper, Paul Coni, Tim Cottee and Chris Johnson (2001) who were the well-deserved winners. I am also pleased to report that the Class of 2012 held a successful 10-year reunion at Murray McHenry's (1967) Steves Bar & Café and the 'Unforgettables' have been able to continue their special luncheons together.
Unfortunately, this year's Beverley and Districts Combined Public Schools Old Scholars' Association Dinner was cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions, which is a real shame for our rural members. On a brighter note, we are excited by the easing of border restrictions which should allow the OBA to have greater engagement with our international and interstate members. As I mentioned at the Annual General Meeting, the OBA is a global community with interstate and overseas members accounting for approximately 8% of our membership. I would encourage all interstate and overseas members to make sure that your contact details remain up to date so that we can keep you informed of upcoming offerings in your place of residence.
Otherwise, the Committee is embarking on a review of the OBA Strategic Plan, and I look forward to sharing the results of that review with you in greater detail later in the year.
We will also be appealing to members over the coming months for nominations for various awards that the OBA plans to offer in 2022.
I hope that you were able to use the Easter break to spend quality time with family and friends, including those who you may not have been able to see for some period.

Class of 2012 - 10 Year Reunion
The 10-year reunion was a fantastic night with a great turn out, especially given the current COVID circumstances. There was a jovial atmosphere which was made even more special by the return of some boys from interstate for the first time in years. It was also great to see so many of the boarders who had made the trip from their farms.

Aiden Cooper (2001) shares secret to team's golfing prowess
Congratulations to Aidan Cooper, Paul Coni, Tim Cottee and Chris Johnson (all from the Class of 2001) who took out the Roger Mackay Perpetual Trophy following their win at the OBA Golf Day. "The team performed well around the course, with Tim solid with the putter, Paul ripping his 2 iron without mercy, Chris with his depth touch around the greens with his trusty sand wedge and my driver behaving itself and finding the fairway. As always a bit of luck went our ways but to the boys very well played. It was great day out for all concerned and thanks to the Old Boys association for putting on a great event." |

Lights, Camera, ActionIf science fiction psychological drama excites you, be sure to check out the public premiere of Alex Montanari's (2015) short film called SISYPHUS.
Paralleling the Greek myth of Sisyphus, the short film follows the story about a man's journey to the edge of the universe. Alex will submit the film to a number of national and international film festivals in the hope of receiving backing for his next project, a feature film. His long-term goal has always been to produce feature-length narrative films. For premiere details follow Alex on Instagram. Alex has been advancing his technical knowledge and experience for several years as a freelance photographer and videographer in the music industry as well as producing and directing music videos. The Age-Old QuestionDoes experience beat youth in cross country running? Former XC runners will be put to the test in a 5km race with current students on Saturday 14 May at Mt Claremont Playing Fields. Old boys who are up for the challenge include Nick Thompson (2017), Jes Bromley (2020), Cameron Garside (2019), Henry Davis (2021), Adam Sudlow (2018) and Oliver Magraith (2021). Work ExperienceChrist Church Grammar School students in Years 11 and 12 often look for workplace experience, and industry placement with an old boy could meet both their interest and
yours. Senior Students can be placed for a full day during the week or during school holidays, with the Careers Counsellor available for support. It's a great opportunity for young men to gain a practical understanding of work and develop skills for employment, while providing a helping hand to assist. CCGS champion results in summer sports
Christ Church Grammar School had a stellar 2021-22 Summer Sport Season. Out of the seven PSA Summer sports, our 1st teams won four cups for Cricket, Rowing, Swimming, and Water Polo. We also placed second in Basketball and Tennis, and fourth in Volleyball. A tremendous effort from all the boys involved as well as staff. |

George Thubron (2015) is a committee member of the Collegians Amateur Football Club and is steering a recruitment drive for new members. We have CCGS old boys ranging from the cohorts of 2009 to 2020 at the moment and are calling for more players to join. All skill levels are welcome, with 5 Club teams including league, reserves, thirds, colts (offered free registration) and women.

Daniel Zhou (2021) was awarded a UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship. The Scholarship Program is offered to 10 exceptional young people who use their skills, abilities and commitment to lead positive change in our community, state and nation. Daniel is studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, majoring in Integrated Dental Science, with assured pathway into Postgraduate dentistry.
Amitabh Jeganathan (2018) has been elected as the 109th Guild President at UWA!
Nathan Tan (2018) graduated from WAAPA in Design and Production and hopes to pursue work as a technician, scenic artist and props maker in both live and screen productions. Recent contracts have included scenic painter for a new season of the ABC TV show "Mystery Road, set up for The Pleasure Garden and Girls School sites for the Fringe Festival and props maker for a new Barking Gecko production: "The Great Un-Wondering of Wilbur Whittaker".
Jordan Love (2016) has recently competed in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in Italy as part of the Haupt Racing Team. At the chequered flag, Jordan crossed the line in P13.
Kaledas Flintoff (2009) whilst studying at the University of Queensland did a medical practical experience overseas, in Arusha, Tanzania, where amongst other things he spent a week living with the Masai Mara tribe. Kal is now undertaking further studies in Aviation
Medicine at Kings College, London.
Luke Parkinson (2007) has just resigned with the UK team for the next America's Cup.
Ben Durham (1994) coaches the Australian Sail GP team and enjoyed a recent win in a major competition scooping a $1m prize.
96 Year old Old Boy, John Moore (1943), reports that he is well and attributes good health to ten years of boarding house tucker! John was a CCGS staff member from 1949-1953. "May Christ Church continue to prosper" he said.
