Message from the Alumni Office


Hello Old Boys,

A warm welcome to 2023 and from me, your new Alumni Co-ordinator. You have been introduced to Zac Vinten, our recently appointed President and some of you may have met Hayley Ray working in the Alumni office since October 2022. Between us, we look forward to contributing to the vision and legacy of the Old Boys' Association.  

I am passionate about building meaningful relationships and hope to leverage the breadth of knowledge and experience of our Old Boy community to continue to support the future of our current students while strengthening our local and global OBA connections.  

It is an absolute privilege to be able to represent the extraordinary collective that is the CCGS Old Boys' Association. Please reach out to share your stories, update your contact details or just to say hi.

Here's to a new era for the Old Boys' Association and an exciting year ahead. I look forward to sharing it with you all.

Claremont Lawn Tennis Club invites you.... 
Save the date! Rod O'Dea ('75) is steering plans for a social ld boys doubles tennis competition at Claremont Lawn Tennis Club on Friday 31 March 2023, with proceeds going to the men's mental health charity Kai-fella. What a great opportunity to reunite with your CCGS and pennant partners for a fun afternoon! The event is open to all standards with prizes, refreshments and a trophy presentation.

Reunions 
Linga On - Year 13 Reunion
One year on, this gathering is the opportunity for our most recent Old Boy's to reconnect after a year in the real world. Thanks to everyone who got along to share their post-school adventures over a drink and a few laughs. 
Unflappables Summer BBQ
The Unflappables ('50 - '59) kicked off the OBA events calendar on 25 January.   It was a hot one at Claremont Yacht Club but a fantastic change of venue while renovations take place at the Boarding House, and Walters Lawn is out of action.  Special thanks to everyone who donated & in particular Bob McCarthy who passed the hat around, collecting $300 for the Old Boys' Association Scholarship. This group are a testament to the lifelong friendships forged at Christ Church that stay with you for life.

Old Boy News 
A shoutout to our old boys, Oliver Higgins ('20), Fletcher Netherway ('20) and Fletcher Wetherell ('22), who were selected for the Under 21 Hockey WA Squad to play against Malaysia. Read more. 
Congratulations to Old Boys Ashton Turner ('10) and Stevie Eskinazi ('11) for a stunning performance with the Perth Scorchers at the BBL Final against the Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium. The match kept us all on the edge of our seats and we were proud to have the Christ Church community turn out in great numbers to support the Scorchers in the record crowd of 53,886. Ashton was deservedly named Man of the Match in what was the Scorchers' 5th title. Read more.                  
Christ Church recently launched two new rowing boats at Champion Lakes, paying homage to two families who have made a significant contribution to the School's rowing community. The boats named "Sam Marsh" and the "The Welborn Family", symbolise the hard work, dedication and achievements of these individuals. Read more.

Special Mention... 
Glyn Llanwarne ('82)
The OBA extends its sincere congratulations to Old Boy Lieutenant Colonel Glyn Llanwarne for being recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Australia Day Honours List for 2023 for his exceptional service to the Australian Defence Force in the field of sensitive and strategic personnel case management. Glyn has previously been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his services to veterans and their families. In 2000, Glyn embarked on a private mission to reunite lost war medals with their rightful owners having come across unclaimed medals at a furniture auction. He has helped return over 1250 medals using a team of researchers and a comprehensive search methodology.  As a Christ Church student, Glyn was a promising Army Cadet, awarded the Alexander Todd memorial prize.  In his graduating year, 1982, he wrote in the Mitre that he 'wishes to join the Army'.  A life long dream realised and celebrated – congratulations Glyn.
