Hello Old Boys, As I approach six months in my role as Alumni Co-ordinator, I would like to thank the old boy community for welcoming me so warmly. In my short time at the School I have had the privilege to attend a variety of events, meet some incredible individuals and hear captivating stories of adventures at Christ Church and how these experiences have shaped life beyond school. We have a
fantastic calendar of events still to come this year, as well as some exciting announcements. I welcome your feedback on what we can do to ensure you feel connected and engaged with this wonderful community and I hope to meet many more of you soon. Luci Mattes

Business Studies Tour Reunion |
|
|
"On 28 April 2023 a motley crew of former CCGS students revisited the site of a group photo taken 30 years prior. In 1993 the Year 10 Business Studies Tour group set of for Asia in a first tour of its kind for Christ Church. The 1993 Tour was notable for opening the possibility for many to consider careers within the region and beyond, with one member, Benyamin Ismail ('95) even going on to become CEO of an Air Asia. The Tour also created a template for subsequent Business
Studies Tours organised by the School. Planning is already underway for a Business Studies Tour Retrospective Reunion in 2025 so that all former participants can share tales of their adventures in a casual setting and catch up with those who have lived through the same experience. A number of the group were unable to attend due to unavoidable responsibilities, last-minute challenges or seasonal ailments. Sadly, we also lost one of our group, Anthony Webb Ware ('95) almost 10 years ago" Dr Colin Huntly (former teacher & current OBA Committee

Class of '73 - 50 Year Reunion
"The Class of 73's 50 year reunion was judged
(by year group coordinators myself and Maca!) to be genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed by the 40 old boys who attended.
Initial refamiliarisations rapidly gave way to tales of embellished memories of youth, extracted and repaired body parts, family dynamics, retirement and such other topics that are the purview of us senior gentlemen.
Absent friends were recognised with a toast to the dozen departed colleagues now sadly joined by Mark Armanasco ('73) this June. The group look forward to reuniting much more frequently as it was agreed the fellowship is too good to leave for another 5 years!"

Old Boys' AFL9s Cup"The last time I played football, I dislocated my finger in the warm up so to say I was nervous for a 15 minute game of AFL 9's is an understatement.
Luckily, it was short-lived when our Team Manager & OBA Vice President, Pete Wallace ('00), with a similar attitude
to one Ted Lasso, informed me of the talent representing the CCGS Old Boys. The likes of Eric McKenzie, Jaxon Crabb and Andrew Browne, all ex-AFL legends, School Council Member, Haaron Bokhari who scored himself a nomination for Mark of the Year, Shaun O'Brien, Chris Wiese and Jacob Doresett-Sawyer made for a formidable team. Thanks to former Head Boy, Craig Gibson ('94) for umpiring the game.
The match was a thrilling display of fast-paced action and friendly competition and the most organised football match I've been a part of.
A sausage sizzle run in conjunction with Scotch College raised $762 for Beyond Blue. Thank you to everyone who supported the day. Check out the video!!"

2023 College Cup "The Swan River Sailing 2023 College Cup was again hosted by the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on the beautiful waters of Freshwater Bay. Six teams raced alongside Christ Church Grammar School who fielded two teams. Scotch College, Trinity and John XXIII made up the remaining teams. Although numbers were lower than previous years, the racing was intense and tight.
Light winds prevailed and at times the conditions were tricky for the organisers and competitors but we managed to complete four good races. CCGS battled hard to end up tied in 2nd place with JTC on 13 points
but slipped to 3rd on a count back. Scotch College blitzed the field and were clear winners. Unfortunately our second team was plagued with some faulty equipment and struggled to show any form.
The College Cup is always a highlight on the sailing calendar and a great regatta for camaraderie amongst many local Perth sailors".

Phillip Buttrose ('62) has donated a pair of classical guitars that he built. The guitars are built to specification of Ignacio Fleta and follow his unique fan bracing design. Phillip has very generously donated the guitars to the CCGS music department. Thank you Phillip.

Patrick Mohony ('19) and his fellow Commerce students from University of Sydney have won the global final of the prestigious CFA Institute 2023 Research Challenge in Washington DC! Huge congratulations to Patrick on this incredible achievement.

Andrew Ford ('12) put his love of golf to good use for charity, alongside friend Jackson Wood, raising $16,000 for Cancer Council research. The lads completed 72 holes as part of The Longest Day to support a close friend recently affected by a cancer diagnosis. They started at 5.15am and finished at 6pm, claiming the biggest challenges of the day were sore feet and playing golf in the dark of the morning! Incredible effort for a very worthy cause.
Jack Buller ('17) was picked up at
#15 in mid season AFL draft by the Sydney Swans, where
he will join Angus Sheldrick ('21) who just received a NAB Rising Star nomination for Round 15 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season. Congrats boys!

St Johns playing fields phase 2
The School has had approval to develop the land adjacent to our current St John's Wood playing fields. The School will fund the radiation and development of the land, and when it is not being used by the School the land will be available for community access. More information.
Walters Renovations
Renovations to the Walters boarding house are progressing, and scheduled to finish in Term 3. This has been a relatively complex project as it is a residence, close to MLC classrooms, and a fairly confined space with all materials being delivered through a well utilised car park.
Walters is the School's original boarding house and was previously renovated in 2016 to accommodate 78 boarders. At
the conclusion of this renovation there will be room
for 105 students and all boarders Years 7 to 12 will reside in secure, modern accommodation.
Knutsford will eventually become the home of the Rites of Passage programs, On Queenslea Drive (OQD) and Little Queenslea Drive (LQD).

Weekend trial of gym open hours !!
Starting from Saturday 22 July the school gym will be staffed from 2.00pm to 4.00pm on Saturdays for Christ Church students, parents and old boys. More info & booking details here.
