This week's assembly was filled with colour, culture, and celebration as students led a vibrant programme to mark Diwali – the Festival of Lights. The assembly opened with Ashreya welcoming the audience and sharing a traditional Sanskrit prayer to Lord Ganesha, invoking blessings for wisdom and success. Students then guided the audience through the meaning and traditions of Diwali, explaining the significance of each of the five days of the festival – from Dhanteras, honouring Goddess Lakshmi, to Bhai-Beej, celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. They also shared the story of Prince Ram and Sita, whose return from exile and triumph over the demon king Ravan symbolises the victory of good over evil. As Paloma explained, "Diwali is about lighting up not only our homes but also our hearts, with kindness, joy, and hope." We enjoyed a stunning series of classical and Bollywood dance performances, showcasing the rich diversity of Indian culture. Highlights included a South Indian Bharatanatyam group performance choreographed by Akshara, Lopa's solo Bharatantyam piece "Ramavatara Kouthuvam", and Sudhiksha's elegant Kathak performance, representing North Indian classical dance. Ashreya and Paloma also delighted the crowd with a lively duet to Pinga, before the programme concluded with an energetic Bollywood finale. The assembly closed with a traditional Sanskrit prayer for peace. It was a beautiful celebration that reminded everyone of Diwali's enduring message — light always triumphs over darkness. Shubh Diwali! ![]() ![]() |
