Year 12 Mother/Daughter Dinner Inspires with Leadership and Values
Friday, 17 October 2025

On Monday evening, we held our annual Year 12 Mother/Daughter Dinner in the Cultural Centre. It was a relaxed and memorable night celebrating the special bond between mothers and daughters while inspiring students as they approach the final year at Marsden. The evening began with a warm welcome from Head of Senior School Jenny Caldwell, setting the tone for connection, reflection, and inspiration.

We were honoured to welcome Alexandra Vranyac-Wheeler, CEO of Master Electricians New Zealand and proud Marsden Old Girl, as our guest speaker. Alex shared her journey from school through to leading a national organisation. Reflecting, "Marsden didn't just teach me what to learn. It taught me how to think critically, how to communicate, and how to collaborate. Those skills have been the foundation of everything I've done since."

She encouraged students to embrace what makes them unique: "Confidence comes from knowing yourself — your strengths, your quirks, and your values — and recognising that your superpower is what makes you, you." On stepping outside comfort zones, she added, "Feel the fear and do it anyway. Challenges build resilience."

Alexandra also spoke about leadership: "The most inspiring leaders combine ambition with service, humility, and authenticity", telling students that "True leadership happens when you listen first, when you seek to lift others, and when you remember that the person beside you has value, too" She reminded students to stay curious and kind, and to see their differences as strengths: "Your difference — the very things that make you stand out — is where your greatest strength lies."

Her story was very well received and resonated with both students and their mothers. The Year 12 Mother/Daughter Dinner remains a cherished tradition, fostering connection, celebrating achievements, and inspiring our students as they step confidently into Year 13 and beyond.
