Marsden Students Excel at EPRO8 Interschool Event
Tuesday, 21 October 2025

Marsden students have once again showcased their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through the EPro8 Challenge — a nationwide, hands-on science and engineering competition that encourages students to design, build, and innovate through real-world challenges. More than 25,000 students across New Zealand take part each year, developing their confidence with technology and critical thinking.

Year 6 Success

Marsden's Year 6 EPro8 teams achieved outstanding results in their recent competition, with the team of Ena, Annamaria, Bianca, and Maissy winning their event and progressing to the semi-finals. Their success reflects impressive teamwork, ingenuity, and perseverance as they tackled complex engineering problems under time pressure.

Year 7–8 Achievements

At the EPRO8 Interschool Event last Wednesday evening, two Year 7–8 teams represented Marsden with enthusiasm and creativity. Students faced a range of possible challenges — from building a boom barrier gate that detects approaching cars, to a remote-controlled shopping trolley, or an electronic foosball table. Both Marsden teams chose the foosball challenge, constructing models complete with moving, electronically powered players. After three hours of designing, building, and testing, one team secured an impressive 3rd place, earning a spot in the regional grand final this November, where the top teams from across the region will compete.

Celebrating Creativity and Collaboration

The EPro8 Challenge offers students a wonderful opportunity to apply science and engineering principles in hands-on, collaborative ways. Marsden extends a huge thank you to our staff for their guidance and support in preparing the teams. Congratulations to all our Year 6 and Year 7–8 students on their achievements — a fantastic demonstration of innovation, teamwork, and Marsden spirit!
